The Masters Academy of Art

Mentorship

Overview

This mentorship program is meant for artists of any level hoping to develop their skills and  refine their work to a more professional level.  Each artist will receive one on one guidance with a unique plan designed to help them towards their goals.

About the Mentorship

The mentorship will begin with an initial phone conversation/interview where I can get to know each artist better on an individual level.  I am very interested in your personal goals, steps you may have already taken towards those goals, and ideas you have moving into the future.  We will work together to create a custom plan for you that will include exercises meant for skill building, including specific exercises relative to color, drawing, art literacy, composition, narrative, materials, and anything else relative to your personal goals.  We will set goals together and meet regularly to assess your progress, critique your work, develop more effective problem solving skills, discuss professional paths and further refine your plan moving forward.

This mentorship is meant to be a relationship and an effort to expand your community.  I hope to learn about you and what your motivations are, and offer feedback on specific projects to help problem solve, refine and work towards creating more perfect work.

Everything we discuss and information we cover will be completely conditional on the individual.  I will try to learn about your goals and abilities, and together develop a plan forward.  This is not a one-size-fits-all program with predetermined exercises and curriculum.

Overall Goals

It is my intent with this mentorship program to help artists of all levels better understand the art world and how to find success as an artist.  This program is tailored for self motivated artists who want to improve.  I would like to offer some guidance and perhaps save each artist some time by sharing my own experience, including good and bad decisions I've made and  learned from along the way.

Schedule

The schedule will be determined on an individual basis and at your convenience.  When your project is at a point where you need some feedback, you can email me to let me know when you're available, and we can set a time that works for both of us.

Register

Because this is so individual, there are no deadlines to sign up.  You can start whenever you'd like.  Also, there are no requirements on what level of proficiency you need to be at, so submitting a portfolio is not necessary.  To register and begin this mentorship, all you need to do is email me at [email protected] and we will schedule an appointment for our initial interview.  This interview is meant for us to get to know each other and for me to be able to hear about your experience and goals.  Feel free to reach out anytime!

Student Testimonials

"Ryan S. Brown's mentorship has been an invaluable journey for me. I first met Ryan in Florence, Italy, and his guidance has been instrumental in my artistic development ever since. What sets Ryan apart is his meticulous and patient approach. He tailors his feedback to each individual student, which allowed me to progress at my own pace. His keen eye for detail is remarkable; he can pinpoint issues in a student's work with remarkable accuracy. Thanks to Ryan's mentorship, I've not only improved my technical skills but gained a deeper understanding of art. It's been an incredible experience learning from him."    --Katie Liddiard

------------------------------------

"Every art student needs 1) someone who can be honest with them about their work and 2) someone who will encourage them as they stumble through the steep growth curves of learning. As an instructor, Ryan is both of these things.
One of my favorite things about Ryan’s critiques is his honestly—he will tell you his honest opinion about your work, positive or negative, then turn right around and cheer you on as you grapple to the finish. Ryan believes deeply in the potential of his students and their work—he always offers hope for the potential dividends of your diligent efforts.
Ryan is invested, attentive, honest and generous. He takes a very individualized approach, considering each student’s goals and personal characteristics as he tailors his instruction.
Ryan has been instrumental to my development as an artist. I attest to his skill as an instructor, and recommend him wholeheartedly."

--Stacy Minch

------------------------------------

"Ryan's mentoring style is characterized by his ability to identify opportunities for growth within each piece of work. He guides artists along, but steers clear of imposing his style or concepts.  I have learned an immense number of technical skills without having to step out of the work I want to create. Through conversation and questions, his approach goes beyond technical guidance, creating a relationship where artists can explore and refine their own voices.

If you are seeking a mentor who respects your artistic individuality and is dedicated to developing your unique strengths, Ryan Brown is the ideal mentor."  --Anna Gustafson
------------------------------------
"When I began pursuing artistic training, I was amazed to find Ryan. I could hardly believe my luck finding an incredible draftsman, composer, and painter all contained in one person. Furthermore, Ryan is an articulate instructor with a great capacity to explaining concepts in a variety of ways. He has been instrumental in my progression as a classical artist. I owe many of my success to his foundational guidance."  --Noelle Gunsay
